Parasympathetic Ganglion. This is a section through the wall of the small intestine showing a parasympathetic ganglion (black arrows) "sandwiched" between two layers of smooth muscle. The red line indicates smooth muscle cut longitudinally and the yellow line indicates smooth muscle cut in cross section. Normally, only a small amount of connective tissue separates these two layers, however, at this site the ganglion, also known as the Myenteric Plexus, is located.

The image on the right is a higher magnification of that on the left illustrating the perikarya (green arrows) that are associated with this parasympathetic ganglion.
