This laboratory is concerned with the identification of the histological features and distinguishing characteristics of the three types of muscle cells: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle.

Muscle tissue is composed of cells specialized for contraction and as such contain contractile proteins. The structural biology of these proteins generates the forces necessary for cellular contraction, which drives movements within certain organs and the body as a whole.
